The Darkest Star Origin Series Jennifer L Armentrout Books
I've always been a fan of this author from her very beginning. I loved the Lux series and am thrilled that there is a spin-off series featuring Luc. I have to admit that I remember Luc as a kid. It took me a bit to have him be older but I totally fell in love with him. Who couldn't?I wondered what secrets where left to have after the ending of the Lux series, but I should never doubt JLA to have crafted some twists and turns that throws off even the biggest Lux fan. And with Luc involved, anything is possible.
Now let me say, if you are going into this book thinking that Luc will be another Daemon, think again. Luc is better. Yes, you heard me right. I love Luc better. He has a mysterious edge and a lot of power. He's gorgeous, of course, but I loved how he was with Evie. Not at the very beginning but later. He's adorable really. He has issues with "peopling" and he has no sense of personal space. I do love him.
As for Evie, she's lived her life away from the Luxen and a little afraid of them. Everything is safe and easy until she meets Luc. Then things run into crazy town and have her holding on for dear life. And things are just not what she's always believed. A deal she has no idea about comes unraveled and she's in the middle of nothing she understands. But she's not to be walked all over either. She stands up to Luc and doesn't put up with his excuses. I do love a strong female character.
It's a great story that I devoured. I loved being back in this world and seeing Daemon a bit. I will never grow tired of the Lux world and look forward to more from the Origin series.
Any JLA fan will want this right away! But it can stand alone so if you've never read this author or about the Lux world, give it a go. It's a great read.

The Darkest Star Origin Series Jennifer L Armentrout Books Reviews
I was lucky enough to be sent an early copy of this book and let me tell you, the wait was unreal to have the actual book in my hands!
Hello my name is Ashley and I have an addiction to Jennifer Lynn Armentrout. I fell head over heels with Daemon in her Lux series and when we were introduced to Luc in the series and the vital role he played I hoped and prayed to the book gods that there would be a book about him. Cue me flailing like a maniac when I see that she wrote a book about Luc AND I was able to read it early. Its a double edge sword because I very much want to scream from the mountaintops that everyone needs to read this book but also I'm stuck in limbo knowing it'll be at least another year before the second book comes out. Also I would like a refund on my heart. It keeps beating really fast whenever Luc is mentioned and it weeps for Evie after uhm... some stuff. (Vague review is vague.)
This story picks up about four years after the events in the last Lux book. There is mention of our favorite characters which brought me great joy because I was dying to see what they were up to. Although this book takes place in the same world Jennifer did a wonderful job blending and giving us little bits of information (without it looking like a info dump) so this book is open to anyone. You definitely do not need to read the previous Lux books. Although I recommend them because duh, aliens.
Evie was super refreshing and I loved that she was human. I loved Kat from the Lux series but it was extra fun to see a human with all their weaknesses and faults go head to head with all the big baddies in this book. Evie may look weak and physically be weak sometimes but she is not lacking in courage. That girl is fierce! It was also so nice to see a close knit group of friends and how they all took care of one another. You don't see it as often in YA as I would like nowadays.
There is a lot that can be considered as spoilers so I'm not able to get into the plot but just know that Jennifer writes a killer story! Overall I'm just going to say that if you are a fan of fast pace, paranormal-y-scifi stories with strong lead characters and tons of emotional turmoil and enough hormones to make this reader fan herself then The Darkest Star is for you!
First, I have to say I love the Luxen Series. I will still go back and read that series but this new book is nowhere close to the original. Let me begin with why I loved the original story. Though the characters were aliens, they were believable. I think the author did an amazing job with character development and plotting the story. It was a simple story yet compelling. I see why the book became such a huge hit. I loved the banner between Daeman and Katy. He behaved like a jerk but somehow you knew underneath that pretense, he was a likable guy. And he was. Dee made a great sidekick character. Very well developed. And the other Luxen characters were developed well enough to enhance the story. There were other characters, Katy's friends at school, that really didn't have a lot to say but were perfect for their position. They didn't need to be anymore than what they were, secondary sidekicks. As the story went on, you found yourself rooting for the two main characters to fall in love, Daeman and Katy. They did but not without interference. The banner shared between them was great. Katy had all the right in the world to become mad at Daeman. The banner seemed natural and fluid. I loved it! The true side of Daeman was really quite funny and sweet. And I fell in love with him.
Now, the new book, The Darkest Star. When I saw this coming, I preordered it. I waited forever. I haven't been this excited over a book in a long time. But my excitement didn't last and this is why. First, I paid ten bucks for a professional, well written book, and I did not get the quality I expected. The book has errors. Words like 'to' and 'a' are often omitted. I get the just of the sentence but I paid for a quality book and expected not to run across so many errors. If it had been only one or two mistakes, I could have over looked the errors but it is consistent throughout the book. If I'd paid .99 cents for this book, I could over look it, but I paid 10 bucks. Far too much for a book that needs more editing. Second, the banner between Luc and Evie feels forced. The only friction I felt was the kiss and it was far too soon and it wasn't all that. Evie got upset at Luc because he asked why she was at the club. Mind you, she is under age at a nightclub. It felt like Evie was overreacting. What did he say to her for her to get so mad at him? I didn't catch that. Luc was a secondary sidekick in the original book and an annoying one and nothing has changed in this new book only he's one of the main characters. Third, there is not much development with Evie or any of the other characters. In the original books, Dee was a great sidekick character to hang with Katy. But in this book, who is the sidekick, James, Heidi or April? They're having lunch at school and this girl from nowhere 'April' begins bashing the Luxen. Who is April and why should the reader care how she feels? What importance does she have to the story? In the original book, Katy threw food on Daeman and the blonde luxen. I thought that was hilarious. My point is that there is no sidekick in this book that gives any weight.
Overall, the plot isn't well thought out and the characters are not developed enough. Though Evie is a teenager, seventeen, she is too immature for her age and acts more like a thirteen year old. Katy acted her age. Young, seventeen-eighteen year old girl with hopes and dreams. It was great. But Evie, I can't figure her out because she needs more development. I thought the story contradicted itself. Such as when Luc walked into Evie's house uninvited, the mom pulled a gun and held it on him until Luc melted it. After Luc left, the mom told Evie that Luc would never hurt them. If that were the case, then why did she hold a gun on him? It didn't make since to me. I am surprised the editor didn't catch this and really to be honest, a whole lot of other things as well. To be frank, I feel like I've been jaded. I was expecting a quality book and instead, I got an under developed book that's overly priced. I expected more from an author that is a New York Times Bestseller and a publisher that is a brand name. I'm really disappointed. It feels like the publisher thought that since the original books sold, that any book with the Luxen name will sell regardless of how terrible it is. This book is not worth the money. And I feel like I've been taken.
