Trust and stability became empty words the day motherless, sixteen-year-old Carrie Norwell's brothers were murdered and her father's heart gave out at the scene. Five years later, her barricaded heart remains virtually impenetrable to anyone willing to get close and offer what she wants more than anything a loving family of her own. That's exactly what Billy Jay Eldridge wants to offer the right girl. Operating on a heart and spirit rivaled only by his looks, he's two years out of college, managing a store and on his way up the corporate ladder. Still, he toys daily with nobler--yet dangerous--career aspirations. Then shy, quiet Carrie joins his crew. Intrigued by her haunted eyes, he sets out to know her better, unaware his life's calling will be the greatest obstacle to getting her to accept from him what she wants and needs most.

No Matter Why is a story of two seemingly opposite people who fall for each other despite their differences. Billy Jay is a handsome, confident young man who could have any girl he wanted. As a manager of a local store, the cashiers vie for his attention. Then Carrie joins the crew and does her best to avoid him. She is very quiet, pretty and perfers to keep to herself. Billy Jay is determined to draw her out and find out what makes her tick. The ensuing cat & mouse between the two is sweet and enganging. The characters in this book are very relatable and the story sucks you in immediately. I found I didn't want to put the book down. My only criticism would be that the book wasn't long enough! I really wanted to learn more about Billy Jay and Carrie. Well done and am looking forward to more!

At an early age, Carrie Norwell learned that life doesn't come with guarantees. The trauma in her life has made her an emotional cripple. Even after five years of counseling, she cannot cope with college or a job--that is until Billy Jay comes into her life.
Billy Jay Eldridge, an upbeat, positive person with an innate desire to be of service to others, nudges Carrie out of reclusive, comfort zone. Billy Jay, not long out of college, finds that climbing the corporate ladder is not for him. Handsome and charismatic, he draws people to him in a natural way--without egoism. Friends, family, and fellow workers hold him in high regard, but Carrie rejects his overtures, taking much of the joy out of his life. She believes if she admits she loves him, he will die (in her self-centered view of life, she truly thinks she has that kind of influence). His high-risk job as a policeman fills her with fear.
Carrie's Aunt Marilyn, who has been Carrie's surrogate mother since Carrie was five years old, tells Carrie that God writes a script for people's lives and they have to live it, while Billy Jay nudges Carrie to use her free will and choose happiness rather isolation. He says he can love enough for both of them if she will just come to him--but the choice must be hers. He is the catalyst for Carrie's redemption (symbolic savior). Her weak, dependent characteristics linger a little too long in the story, but she does finally gain some emotional strength that gives hope for her future.
Joanne Aislinn weaves together a story of a man who reaches out with love and a girl who tries to deny love because of her fears and past hurts. The emotional journey of Carrie and Billy Jay is a compelling story of love finding its way passed many obstacles to prove LOVE is the greatest.
Is it possible to convince someone that they are the answer to your prayers? Perhaps with allot of faith and some perseverance thrown in for good measure.
Perseverance is something Billy Jay Eldridge has lots of and while he has had his fair share of bumps in the road of his life he truly believes that Carrie Norwell is the woman for him. One glance of her beautiful face and sweet smile won him over and he is determined to show Carrie what his love can provide her. Carrie on the other hand has dealt with horrific grief and sadness beyond her 21 years and fears any type of relationship will break her heart and hurt her again. Carrie is not sure she could recover from or survive another emotional loss.
Billy Jay knows Carrie could learn to trust and he has enough love for both of them all he need do is remain his sweet, charming self. Yet for every step forward they take in the relationship it seems so many setbacks occur that he worries that he is always saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Carrie is trying to take her life in a new direction by finding friends, getting her degree and expanding her experiences outside of the house she shares with her aunt, but can she go so far as to commit to Billy Jay?
Determination and a vigilant belief that prayers do get answered Billy Jay continues his quest and gets Carrie to think that maybe she could dip just a small bit of her toe in the water and see what happens between them.
What a fascinating book with truly well written characters. It is a very chaste relationship but with the angle of first, young love and learning to find yourself when you have so much baggage at such a young age this is the type of relationship that should be written about Billy Jay and Carrie. I think the push and pull of the relationship was developed slowly and with great thought about how people deal with everything life throws at you and still have faith.
I felt like this one took a little while to get going. The character development was thorough and in depth, which was wonderful in a sense but also a bit dry to start. To me it wasn't until around the 7th chapter that I had a feel for the characters and could start settling into the story. There were a few little editing glitches, transition words omitted- nothing major though.
With all of that said, it was well written and well thought out. Oftentimes with this type of story, the main characters emotions are over or under played. I was pleased to find that was not the case with Carrie, her choices and precautions were completely believable. I would have preferred to learn more about her loss up front. It was hard to feel for her without really getting a grip on the magnitude of her situation. Once that was in place, she whittled her way into my heart.
It was so refreshing to have a character openly talk to the adult in her life, in this case her Aunt. I loved the dialogue and insight she gained from their discussions, her Aunt's patience and pure love. I would consider this a Christian book, there were several references to relying on the strength of God, but completely subtle and naturally introduced through Billy Jay's family beliefs. Though I have seen this book labeled as a romance, there are no steamy scenes. It is a love story, a story of faith, courage, friendship, healing, and pulling through difficult times.
Overall, it was a heart warming and realistic view on kindling love amidst a tragic past. I would recommend it to teenagers and young adults.
